ON THE OTHER SIDE

Author Unknown

A sick man turned to his doctor, as he was leaving the room after paying a visit, and said, "Doctor, I am afraid to die. Tell me what lies on the other side." Very quietly the doctor said, "I don't know." "You don't know?" the man said.

"You, a Christian man, do not know what is on the other side?"

The doctor was holding the handle of the door, on the other side of which came a sound of scratching and whining. As he opened the door, a dog sprang into the room and leaped on him with an eager show of gladness.

Turning to the patient, the doctor said, "Did you notice my dog? He's never been in this room before. He didn't know what was inside. He knew nothing except that his master was here, and when the door opened, he sprang in without fear."

"I know little of what is on the other side of death," the doctor continued, "but I do know one thing: I know my Master is there, and that is enough. And when the door opens, I shall pass through with no fear, but with gladness."

UPHILL AND DOWNHILL

© 2014 – Ayobami Temitope Kehinde

I don't like using the staircase if there is a lift. Why should I lose some of my kilos when I need more? But today, the lift was out of service and I had to reluctantly take the stairway to where I had to go. I went up ten flights of steps stopping in-between to breathe in some air. I was panting by the time I reached the floor I was going to. But I knew it would be better on the way downstairs and it was, no panting or stopping for breath.

This reminds me of what some friends told me some years back. They said it is more difficult to climb uphill than come downhill. And it is easier to pull down than to build as well.

Be encouraged as you focus on your track in destiny and as you do your part to get to the expected end. It may seem not to be working; your efforts might seem not worthwhile, don't give up, keep on, you will get to the top of the hill. Listen, even if there is no lift to make it easier for you, you will get there if you don't faint.

ALL MEN ARE NOT EQUAL

© 2014 – Olusola E. Adeniyi

“All men are equal,” people say.
But look again to perceive the case I uphold:

All men are born equal
But all men do not grow equal.
Some grow thin, others grow fat and are endowed in proportions;
Some grow tall, others don't grow up much;
Some are dark in skin, others are fair and light in skin.

All men are born equal
But not all men have equal opportunities;
All men are given equal chances
But not all men take equal chances.
All men see equal chances
But not all men make equal choices.

At birth we are equal, I agree,
But in destiny we are not the same;
In influence we are different;
In affluence we are not alike.
Some will be heard, others will not be known.
Some will stir up in strength, others will quiver in weakness .
Some will follow their dreams to the end, others will give up to despair.
Some will be remembered forever, others will be forgotten forever.
All men come into the world, but they do not leave the same mark.

So I ask you this day,
Are all men equal?
Do all men make equal choices?
Do all men stand in the face of fear?
Do all men fight on, amidst our common despair?
Do all men reach their destiny?
Do all men breast the tape?

All men are born in sizes and colour, so Divine,
But a man's end was his choice—
Choices of the paths he took

So I charge you this day:
Think deep upon your paths
There is no life in the grave.

Religion Or Personal Relationship?

© 2015 – Joy Babafemi

“Christianity is my religion.”
Is not what the Lord sees
So what makes the distinction,
To the One we are trying to please?

It is not at all enough
To believe there is a God
And acknowledge the power of
A Supreme One who is not flawed.

Didn’t the Israelites know God’s power?
He parted the Red Sea before them
But still their love turned sour
Whenever they encountered a problem.

God even rained down manna
To feed his people the Israelites.
And even though they sang hosanna,
The selfish city only complained of their plights.

It is human to long and crave
For things that make our lives pleasurable,
So we want to sin and misbehave
And still shout “God is able!”

Do not serve God the way you like—
Not like Sodom and Gomorrah,
For them God did strike,
Same with Ananias and Sapphira.

Looking to justify our deeds and sins
With quotes and Biblical scriptures
Is where self-deception begins,
For God knows the heart of all creatures.

Sunday morning in the chapel
Is not what it is about.
Study and OBEY the Bible,

Then by God you can be called devout.

When I say ..."I am a Christian"

© 1998 - Carol S. Wimmer

When I say ... "I am a Christian"
I'm not shouting, "I'm saved"
I'm whispering, "I get lost!"
"That is why I chose this way"

When I say ... "I am a Christian"
I don't speak of this with pride
I'm confessing that I stumble,
and need someone to be my guide

When I say ... "I am a Christian"
I'm not trying to be strong,
I'm professing that I'm weak,
and pray for strength to carry on

When I say ... "I am a Christian"
I'm not bragging of success,
I'm admitting that I've failed,
and cannot ever pay the debt

When I say ... "I am a Christian"
I'm not claiming to be perfect,
my flaws are way too visible
but God believes I'm worth it

When I say ... "I am a Christian"
I still feel the sting of pain
I have my share of heartaches
which is why I seek His Name

When I say ... "I am a Christian"
I do not wish to judge
I have no authority,
I only know I'm loved!
